Dear DC-ALT Friends,
It was a pleasure to see many of you recently at Confluence -- the translation conference we have co-hosted with Montgomery College for the last three years -- and we look forward to continuing to bring DC's established and aspiring literary translators together in the coming year over numerous engaging events.

As some of you have heard, the DC-ALT Advisory Board is pleased to announce that we have a new director! Roman Kostovski, editor of DC-based Plamen Press, has agreed to take on the role and lead us forward. We thank Roman for stepping up and are so pleased he will bring his prodigious energies and talents to building our community. We are also delighted to welcome Tanya Paperny, our most recent director, to the Advisory Board so that we can continue to have the benefit of her wisdom and executive skills.
We are looking forward to many exciting events this coming year and will soon share a schedule and solicit your ideas--Roman will be communicating with you via a newsletter on Constant Contact, a new format for DC-ALT communications, so please be on the lookout for that!
At this time, we would like to request that our members renew their dues for 2017-18 -- $25 for a regular membership and $15 for students or recent grads. These dues allow us to sponsor events such as the Confluence open mike, sustain the website and domain name, and take on other such costs (including plans to seek 501c3 status). Please access the site at this link: http://www.dc-alt.com/join-us.html. We would also note that:
In the meantime, thank you for renewing your membership, thanks to our many volunteers, and thanks to all for helping us keep the DC-Area Literary Translators Network growing!
With best regards, your DC-ALT Advisory Board Members

- this year, for added incentive and excitement, we are planning to offer dues-paying members the opportunity to submit short texts in translation for possible inclusion in DC-ALT's first ever chapbook!
- In addition, we will offer dues-paying members "speed dating" sessions with experienced editors and published writers--bring your work-in-progress and get valuable feedback and advice.
- and for those new members who join by October 15, we are offering a free T-shirt (to be picked up at the DC-ALT event of your choosing--how can you go wrong)!
In the meantime, thank you for renewing your membership, thanks to our many volunteers, and thanks to all for helping us keep the DC-Area Literary Translators Network growing!
